We’ve improved the security of payments in My Account
A lot of our customers pay their rent or charges through My Account so we’ve improved the payment system to make it more secure. We’ve also improved how it looks so it’s easier to use.
What’s changing?
From the 13 July 2021 we’ll be using 3D Secure which means when you’re making a payment, you’ll be asked to complete a verification step with your card issuer. It’s quick and easy, and you will have set up these verification steps with your bank.
It's likely you'll recognise it as it’s very similar to how you pay for things at online shops or services. It can also be known as Mastercard Securecode or Verified by Visa.
The verification step depends on who you bank with, what type of card you have, and how you set up the verification with your bank. The payment system may:
- Send you a text message or email with a one-time passcode (OTP) that you need to enter
- Ask you to enter a pin or password
- Get you to answer a security question that only you know
- Ask you to verify the payment with your mobile banking app
Sometimes you won’t be asked to provide any other details at all.
Why are we doing this?
It makes online payments safer for you by:
- Adding an extra layer of security
- Helping to stop your card details being stolen
- Reducing fraud
- Making sure payments are authorised by you
