Starts at home day 2021

We're proud to be supporting Starts at Home 2021. Now in its sixth year and run by the National Housing Federation, the campaign celebrates how supported housing helps hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people gain their independence and confidence.

Housing associations provide a wide range of vital supported housing services including sheltered accommodation, refuges for domestic violence victims, homelessness shelters and housing for those with disabilities.

We're proud to provide supported housing for almost 140 people in Kent and Medway. We're looking to provide even more and have a new older person's scheme, Yeoman House, opening in October that will become home to 68 people. We're also planning a new development for young people aged 16-25, known as a "foyer".

But uncertainty surrounds the future funding of supported housing. The National Housing Federation and its members are campaigning to persuade the Government to commit to ensuring that every person who needs extra support has a home that meets their needs.

One of our customers Logan, has made positive strides since moving to one of our young persons supported living schemes back in September 2020.

“A lot has changed since I moved in last year, for the good. I’ve gained more independence and it’s allowed me to experience what it’s like to live on my own,” said 19-year old Logan.

“I got a job as a motor vehicle apprentice three days after moving in and I’ve been working ever since.

“I can learn about the ups and downs that come with living by yourself. I want to experience all of it so that’s why I moved here.”

Ashley Hook, chief executive at mhs homes said: "Supported living plays a crucial role for many. We're proud to provide housing that gives young people the best start to their adult life as well as older people to help them remain independent in later years."

All of the supported living properties from mhs homes are let through Kent Homechoice. Have a look to see what's available at the moment.
