We’re proud to support Making Miracles as our Charity of the Year in 2023
Each year, our colleagues nominate charities they’re passionate about to become our Charity of the Year.
For 2023, that charity is Making Miracles. A birth trauma and baby bereavement care charity based in Kent.
Making Miracles offers families tailored support, services and tools to deal with their trauma and grief.
Beth who nominated Making Miracles said: “I nominated them because I’ve experienced the amazing work they do. Without them, I don't think I would've been able to come back to work or cope on a daily basis and be as open as I have been. Everything they do is made possible by donations and I can’t wait to help them like they’ve helped me, my partner and our families.”
Making Miracles is open to the whole family from parents to grandparents and siblings; and is the only UK charity to offer this.
Making Miracles said: “This is such welcomed and wonderful news, we are truly over the moon to be nominated and picked as mhs homes’ Charity of the Year. Thank you to those who nominated and recognised us. We are just thrilled that by partnership and corporate fundraising it will help us to support even more families, so they never have to feel alone in their grief."
Grief is different for everyone, and Making Miracles offers a range of traditional services, from counselling to support groups. From April 2021 to August 2022, they delivered 1,320 free counselling sessions.
What contributes to them being a unique charity, is the other tools and services they provide.
In August 2016, they opened a Baby Memorial Garden in Rochester, Medway, so people have a quiet space to go and remember their loved ones. They’ve gone further by dedicating a section to display beautiful slates and pebbles with a baby’s date of birth or death engraved and their name if known.
Their range of tools also include: A memorial bear; a children’s book; a podcast and ‘Sent with love’ care boxes, which are designed for anyone who may have experienced trauma and grief.
Beth who has a bear of her own said: “Our memorial bear was given to us at the hospital and has Cathleen's ashes inside. It brings us so much comfort and is the closest we will ever get to being able to dress and cuddle our daughter. It’s one of our most treasured belongings.”
At mhs homes, we’re a local Kent based housing provider who’re community focused and driven by our social purpose.
Supporting a small, local charity like Making Miracles means the community we serve are able to access the help they need if they experience baby loss.
Ashley Hook said, “Supporting local charities is a key part of our culture. Over the years we’ve been able to raise tens of thousands for different charities with the help of our colleagues and stakeholders.”
I’m excited that for 2023, we’ll be supporting Kent based charity, Making Miracles. The work they do is a vital and I look forward to working closely with them.”
