We’re supporting Starts at Home Day
We’re supporting Starts at Home Day to celebrate the positive impact of supported housing on communities.
We run supported housing projects – called foyers – for young people who have experienced homelessness.
Our foyers are a safe place where young people can live, learn, and make the transition to independent adulthood.
New foyer boosts support for homeless young people
mhs homes is set to boost our support for young people experiencing homelessness, with the opening of our new Sunrise Foyer.
The supported housing scheme will provide accommodation for 16-24 year olds and has the space to support 30 young people.
Together with our existing Endeavour and Springboard Foyers, the scheme has the potential to change the lives of hundreds of young people in Medway.
People like Connor McCue whose first experience of mhs homes was as a homeless 19-year-old who was offered a place in one of our foyer schemes.
After being given the stability he needed, Connor took advantage of the foyer’s support services, including help with finding work.
When a post came up in our grounds maintenance team, Connor applied for the role and was offered the job.
Three years on, he’s made the most of every opportunity, qualifying in news areas including strimming and pesticide training.

“Connor always has a smile on his face, whether he is cutting grass, tending shrubs or just clearing rubbish,” said supervisor Stewart Tucker. “He’s a great lad, our customers love him.”
Alison Mason said: “Connor has worked on the grounds where I live. He’s always so polite, a lovely young man.”
Connor’s journey from a homeless teenager to a skilled member of our estates team reinforces the value of our foyer accommodation.
Connor had a difficult start in life. “Being offered a place at the foyer gave me the help I needed to get my life back on track,” he said.
