mhs homes supports National Housing Federation’s long-term plan
mhs homes has pledged to support the National Housing Federation’s (NHF’s) new long-term plan, which aims to end the current housing emergency.
In its report, Let’s fix the housing crisis: Delivering a long-term plan for housing, the NHF outline six ambitious goals for the next government to hit by 2035.
These six goals are to:
- End child homelessness.
- Halve overcrowding.
- Provide the security of a social home for one million more people.
- Ensure a warm and decent home for 7 million more families.
- Improve affordability.
- Boost productivity by ensuring every region has the homes it needs to grow.
It further explores eight policy interventions that would enable housing associations to contribute towards achieving these goals.
The report is aimed at key party influencers and manifesto writers and sets out how, through committing to a long-term plan for housing, the government can end the housing emergency and shows what this will mean for the people affected.
It states that housing associations must sit at the heart of any long-term plan and stand ready to work with the government to end the housing crisis.
The issues around housing certainly cannot be ignored. In fact, recent data from YouGov show that housing is now the fourth most important electoral issue for voters.
Ashley Hook chief executive of mhs homes, said: “We at mhs homes are backing the National Housing Federation’s new long-term plan. We believe that everyone has the right to a decent home.
“The housing emergency is the result of decades of under investment in affordable housing and this needs to change. It is vital that we end the housing crisis. The plan sets out clear goals to achieve this.”
