mhs homes recognised in Government report on building safety
mhs homes has been showcased as an example of good practice by the Government’s Industry Safety Steering Group (ISSG) for its work as a Building a Safer Future ‘Charter Champion’.
The ISSG, which published its 4th annual report on 1 March, was set up by the Government in 2018 following the Grenfell tragedy to advise the Secretary of State on matters of safety in the built environment.
Last year, mhs homes group chief executive, Ashley Hook, presented to ISSG chair, Dame Judith Hackitt, and her committee on the work the organisation has undertaken to achieve Building a Safer Future ‘Charter Champion’ status.
Report findings
The Building a Safer Future Charter initiative was established to promote culture change and to help improve building safety for all those living and working in the built environment. The report comments that the Charter “has shown significant collaboration within the industry through its continued work to develop a benchmarking and verification framework that sets a high bar for organisations who go through the process.”
mhs homes was highlighted for showcasing how the framework has helped us guard against complacency and take proactive measures to advance our approach to building safety.
Although the underlying challenge of enacting culture change is an ongoing process, mhs homes’ proactive measures help to put them on the right pathway. This continuous improvement journey involves learning from others and focuses on evidence-based decision making rather than tick box exercises - ISSG report
Chief executive, Ashley Hook, said: “Resident safety and building safety always come first. We’re pleased to be able to share our own experiences as part of this important initiative that’s helping to drive positive change across the built environment sector.
“It is great to see the hard work of colleagues across the organisation, and particularly our Building Safety Taskforce, recognised in this way.”
