Residents tidy up estate as part of Spring Clean event
An estate in Chatham is looking much tidier after an incredible 20 bags of litter were collected as part of a Spring Clean event.
Residents of Bryant Street estate joined with staff from mhs homes for the clean-up. It was a chance for families to enjoy some holiday activities including an Easter colouring competition and games with mhs homes mascot Ozzy the Ocelot.
The event was organised by mhs homes and Medway Council as an opportunity to meet with residents, to listen and share ideas about how they can support the local community and create better neighbourhoods.
They were joined by partners including police and crime support officers, the fire service, and health teams who were on hand to offer information and advice on local services.
To further support the community, two skips were placed around the estate, giving residents the opportunity to dispose of bulky waste and large items.
Carrie-Leigh Hodges, estates services delivery manager at mhs homes, said the initiative is the first of many. “We’re planning more events to bring our communities together and look at ways we can prevent littering and fly tipping and improve the local environment.
“Our teams at mhs homes will continue to work to make sure our communities are clean, tidy and safe. Residents can help us by continuing to report any fly-tips and graffiti, and we’ll be launching our Litter Lotto as a new way of tackling this important issue.”
Tony Lee, Enforcement Officer at Medway Council, said: “The event was a great success with more than four tonnes of waste collected over the day. It demonstrates how collaboration between different partners and residents can make a big difference.”
The event builds on ongoing work in the area by mhs homes, Kent Police, Medway Council and other agencies to improve the lives of residents affected by crime and anti-social behaviour. The national initiative ‘Clear, Hold, Build’ was launched last summer to help make the estate a safer, more peaceful environment.
