What’s an Estate Champion?
Estate Champions are residents who work with us to help make our estates and local communities a safer, cleaner and more attractive place to live.
You'll visit estates across mhs homes carrying out estate inspections alongside our Estates Services Team.
Working closely with our Estates Services and Customer Services Team, you’ll build community partnerships and be a voice for our customers, letting us know what we’re doing right and how we can improve our estates. You’ll be a valued voice, helping us work together with you, our customers to improve areas.
You’ll also be part of area walkabouts on your local area with our Customer Team and other community partners such as local agencies and councillors.
As an Estate Champion you'll get involved in:
- Letting us know what we're doing right and where we need to improve on our estates
- Building relationships with our Estates Service Team, Customer Team, and our local communities
- Communicating issues to us and providing insight on our estate service standards
- Using your local knowledge to give us a good picture of any specific issues local areas on area walkabouts
- Providing ideas and have a collaborative approach to solving issues on estates together with our partners after attending area walkabouts and estate inspections
- Working with us to improve our communities and how we communicate any improvements to customers
- Helping us look at the communal areas, the outside of blocks, and surrounding areas making sure we’re meeting our estate service standards on an Estate Inspection
- Looking at improvement application forms for approval (subject to budgets)
We will:
- Actively listen to you
- Provide training, materials and resources where necessary
- Regularly communicate with you and invite you to the estate inspections.
- Invite you to an local area walkabout with us on your estate to help us identify any improvements
- Give you opportunities to prioritise and choose improvements within an allocated budget
- Keep you up to date on any planned improvements you’ve chosen

If you're interested in volunteering to help us improve our estates then we'd love to hear from you.
It doesn't matter if you live in a block, house, or bungalow or whether you're a social and affordable rent customer, a shared owner or privately renting from us, everyone's welcome to apply. But please note that you must be an mhs homes or Heart of Medway tenant to be an Estate Champion.
You'll need to attend an information session before you can sign up to be an Estate Champion.
Information sessions
During the session we will:
- Explain more about the role
- Outline the expectations of the role
- Talk you through the estate inspection sheets
- Answer any questions you may have
