What is Awaab’s Law?
Awaab’s Law is named after two-year-old Awaab Ishak, who tragically died in 2020 due to prolonged mould exposure in his home.
From 27 October 2025, this new law gives social housing tenants stronger rights. It requires landlords to investigate hazards like damp and mould, provide a written summary of their findings and promptly carry out repairs if health risks are identified.
Emergency hazards must be addressed within 24 hours, and alternative accommodation must be offered if hazards cannot be swiftly remedied.
